Settlr (“we,” “us”) helps you split restaurant bills: you scan a receipt, share a link, and your guests claim the items they had. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We built Settlr to collect as little as possible.
1. Information we collect
- Account. When you first open the app we create an anonymous account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we store the identifier they return and your email (if shared).
- Profile. Your display name and the payment handles you choose to add (e.g. “Venmo: @me”). These are free-text fields you control.
- Receipt images. The photo you take is uploaded only to extract items, then deleted within minutes (see §3).
- Tab data. The merchant name, items, prices, tax, tip, and the claims your guests make.
- Usage. A monthly count of tabs created, to apply free-tier limits.
- Device & notifications. A push token so we can notify you when guests claim or pay, and basic device details (model, OS version, app version) attached to support and diagnostic reports.
- Feedback & support. If you send feedback, rate the app, or open a support ticket, we collect what you write, any screenshot you choose to attach, and — only if you turn on the "attach diagnostic logs" option — a capped log of recent in-app activity to help us debug. These are kept so we can respond and improve the app.
- Product analytics. Anonymous, aggregate events about how the app is used (for example, a tab was created or a receipt was scanned), tagged with a random per-install identifier. This is never used to track you across other apps or for advertising.
- Purchases. Subscription status, managed through the App Store / Google Play via RevenueCat. We never see your card details.
2. How we use your information
- To run the core service: scanning receipts, creating tabs, sharing links, and tallying claims.
- To show your guests how to pay you back (your chosen payment handles).
- To send notifications you’ve opted into.
- To enforce free-tier limits and manage subscriptions.
- To answer your feedback and support requests, and to understand and improve how the app is used.
- To keep the service secure and debug problems.
We do not sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
3. Receipt images are sensitive — and temporary
Your receipt photo is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed to read the line items, and then permanently deleted from our storage within five minutes of a successful scan. A scheduled job removes any stray images within an hour. In regions with stricter data rules, scanning happens entirely on your device and the photo never leaves your phone.
4. When information is shared
- With your guests. Anyone you give a tab link to can see the tab’s items, totals, the claims made, and your payment handles. Only share links with people you intend to split with.
- Service providers. We use Supabase (database, auth, storage), Google (receipt text recognition), Firebase (push notifications), and RevenueCat (subscriptions). They process data only to provide their service to us. Feedback, ratings, support tickets, and product-analytics events are stored on our own Supabase infrastructure — they are not sent to any third-party feedback or analytics vendor.
- Legal. We may disclose information if required by law.
Settlr is not a payment processor. Money moves directly between you and your guests through whatever service you both already use — we never hold or transfer funds.
5. How long we keep it
Tabs are kept while active and soft-archived after 30 days. Receipt images are deleted within minutes (§3). Feedback, ratings, support messages, any screenshots you attach, and product-analytics events are retained so we can respond to you and improve the app; you can ask us to delete them at any time (§10). If you delete your account, we remove your tabs, items, claims, profile, and push tokens within seconds. Anonymous accounts that are never used again may be cleaned up after 90 days.
6. Your choices and rights
- Access & edit your profile and payment handles any time in Settings.
- Delete your account from Settings → Account, which erases your data. See how to delete your account and data.
- Notifications can be turned off in Settings or your device’s system settings.
7. Children
Settlr isn’t directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Tab links use a long random token, and our servers rate-limit lookups to deter guessing. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
